Type 2 Diabetes Diet Should Be A Balanced Regimen

by michael diro

Diabetes comes in three different forms, type I, type 2 and gestational diabetes. There is a higher likelihood of having type two diabetes if you are overweight, older than 45 or have family members who have had the disease. Type two diabetes is also seen in people with high blood pressure and cholesterol levels as well as those that have a history of gestational diabetes, polycystic ovary disease. There is also an increased chance if you don't exercise or if you have had a stroke or any other history of vascular disease.

Several studies have found that coffee drinkers, especially those who drink a lot of coffee have a lower risk of diabetes than do other people. Coffee has a positive effect on diabetes. But it is becoming increasingly clear it is not the caffeine that is beneficial. The picture is now evolving where we see that some other components of coffee besides caffeine may be beneficial in long-term in reduction of diabetes risk.

While regular coffee has been found to have a significant negative effect upon blood sugar, it appears that decaffeinated coffee may well help people maintain their blood sugar levels. Caffeine unbalanced by other coffee compounds may well prove worse. Even if there are anti-diabetes compounds in coffee, they will not offset the harmful effects of caffeine.

If you do have symptoms of type 2 diabetes, they may include feeling thirsty, having to urinate more than usual, feeling more hungry than usual, losing weight without trying to, feeling very tired and feeling cranky. Other signs of Type 2 diabetes may include infections and cuts and bruises that heal slowly, blurred vision, tingling or numbness in your hands or feet, trouble with skin, gum, or bladder infections and vaginal yeast infections.

Most people with diabetes have questions about the foods they can eat and the type 2 diabetes diet. As you may know, diabetes is a metabolic disorder, and therefore affects how your body processes food into energy. There are many misconceptions regarding diabetes and food. A common misconception is that a diet prohibiting sugar and other types of foods exists for diabetics.

The counsel given to diabetes sufferers is much like that given to other people, except that greater stress is placed upon controlling weight, blood glucose, and the risk factors that tend to cause serious cardiac problems. A type 2 diabetes diet should be a balanced regime with an assortment of nutritious, low calorie foods, and it should be supplemented with a proper level of exercise.

People should strive to eat a diet that contains 20 to 35 percent of the daily caloric intake from fat, according to guidance from the Institute of Medicine. The American Diabetes Association no longer sticks to this specific rule of thumb. Medical experts agree that type 2 diabetes diets need to contain fat, and the fat they have needs to be as healthy as possible. People on these diets must aim to curtail eating of unhealthy and saturated fats, focusing on unsaturated fats.

There are three main types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes; type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. You may have a health risk factor for type two diabetes if you; are overweight, are over 45 years of age, have a family history of diabetes or having high blood pressure. Some of the symptoms of type 2 diabetes include excessive thirst or hunger, frequent urination, general fatigue and irritability. One of the most frequent questions people with diabetes have in their mind is what the type 2 diabetes diet is. One of the most common myths is that there is a diabetes diet that prohibits sugar and lists other items to avoid.
