Breast Cancer Symptoms For Early Detection
Breast cancer can strike women of any age, and men too. Therefore, it is vitally important to understand the breast cancer symptoms, and what to do in the event you experience one or more of these symptoms. Of course, only your doctor can tell for certain if the symptoms are being caused by cancer. One would be well advised to schedule an appointment without delay if any of these breast cancer symptoms are present.
A lump is typically the first sign of breast cancer. The lump will feel different to the touch than the surrounding tissue. Developing the habit of performing a regular breast self exam is very important in order to catch such signs early, when a cancer, if present, is more treatable. Regular mammograms are another important screening tool for early detection of breast cancer.
There are several other breast cancer signs to be aware of, other than a lump. If your breast changes size or shape this is something to take note of and inform your doctor of right away. You might also have some dimpling of the skin on your breast. If your nipples become inverted or you have discharge from a single nipple, these are other things you should keep your doctor informed of.
Paget's disease of the breast is a disease that can sometimes indicate breast cancer. It causes skin changes in the breast such as redness and flakes on the nipple of the breast that is affected. As it advances you might also experience symptoms like itchy skin on the breast, more sensitivity than usual, burning and pain. As always, it is important to let your doctor know if you think you might suffer from this disease.
Occasionally, various symptoms such as rapid loss of weight which cannot be attributed to any other visible cause, and persistent unexplained fever and chills can be indicators of breast cancer. Other signs may include disparate neurological symptoms, bone or joint pain or even jaundice, so it pays to be attentive of these.
Please remember that the majority of medical breast problems are not related to cancer. Although you should never ignore breast issues, you do not to be overly worried. Go to a doctor and get a complete examination. Then you will know for sure what your problem is. In most cases there is nothing critical to worry about. You will be able to set your mind at ease.
It is imperative that women of all ages stay up to date with breast cancer symptoms. If you have the following symptoms, inform your doctor immediately. The first symptom is usually a lump: it'll feel different than the tissue that surrounds it; changes in the shape or size of breast; dimpling of the skin on the breast; nipples suddenly become inverted, or you experience some discharge from nipple; sudden weight lost; Paget's disease in the breast; redness and flakiness on the nipple; continued episodes of fever or chills; pain in bones or joints, neurological problems, and jaundice. A regular self exam and regular mammograms advised.
